BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland junior Brennan Morris will compete at the 2011 ConcoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships in Palo Alto, Calif., August 2-6 at Stanford University's Avery Aquatic Center. Morris will swim the 400-meter individual medley on Tuesday, before competing in the 1500-meter freestyle heats on Friday. The finals of the 1500 free are scheduled for Saturday.
Morris will be among the top swimmers from around the country at the meet, including nine U.S. Olympians and three Olympic gold medalists: Jason Lezak, Ryan Lochte and Peter Vanderkaay.
Along with selecting the year's USA Swimming National Champions, the event will serve as the selection meet for the 2011 Pan American Games, set for Oct. 15-22 in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Morris is a two-time CollegeSwimming.com Mid-Major All-America Honorable Mention honoree. He was also tabbed the 2011 MAAC Most Outstanding Men's Swimmer of the Year for the second-straight year after winning four individual events and leading the Greyhounds to their third-consecutive MAAC Championship.
At the 2009 U.S. National Championships, Morris finished runner-up in the 1500 free and qualified for the U.S. World Championships Team. He was also a member of the 2007 National Junior Team.
Universal Sports will carry the competition live Aug. 2-3, beginning at 9 p.m. ET. The event will be packaged and broadcast on NBC on Aug. 6, from 4-6 p.m., and Aug. 7, from 5-6 p.m. ET, with re-airs each night on Universal Sports, beginning at 8 p.m. ET. All sessions will also be webcast live on www.usaswimming.org/nationals.
