Greyhounds Announce Team Captains For 2008-09

May 5, 2008

Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola men's and women's swimming and diving teams announced their team captains for the 2008-09 season. Those captains are junior Matthew Shaw and senior E.J. Verrico on the men's side and seniors Lindsay Comodore and Sarah Birkenmeier on the women's side.

"This is a great pair of men and women to help lead the team next season," said Head Coach Brian Loeffler. "We have a talented freshman class entering in the fall, and I expect we will be in the hunt for a MAAC Championship."

Shaw is a native of Mountain Lakes, N.J., while Verrico is from Stamford, Conn. Verrico was a member of two MAAC Champion relays teams this year, helping Loyola set school records in both the 400 Free and 200 Medley Relays.

Commodore is a product of Spring Lake, N.J., while Birkenmeier is native of Havertown, Pa. Both have been valuable members of Loyola's relay teams as well as individually in the freestyle and butterfly events.

Shaw, Verrico and Commodore are also members of the MAAC All-Academic Team, while all four captains contributed to Loyola's APR success as one of only eight programs in the country to have perfect scores.

The 2008-09 captains replace Patrick Hicks, Ian Perazzelli, Megen Hadley and Tess Drazdowski - this past season's team captains.
