Loyola University Maryland's men's and women's swimming and diving teams recently stepped off the pool deck and took time from their training and class schedules to participate in a pair of community service events.
Both squads took part in one of the largest outreach events on campus each year, Relay For Life. An event that raises funds for the American Cancer Society, it takes place in March on the Loyola campus.
Participants pack Reitz Arena for a 12-hour walk-a-thon. The men's and women's swimming teams had relay teams that participated and raised well over $2,000 for the event.
Later that month, the men's swimming team spent a day at Beans And Bread, a Catholic Charities center that provides food and shelter for underserved in the Baltimore community.
Seventeen members of the men's swimming and diving team used their time to serve meals, interact with community members and accomplish other tasks for the organizations.
