Scholz Named To U.S. IPC World Championships Team

COLORADO SPRINGS - Loyola University Maryland junior Philip Scholz will add another stamp to his passport this summer, as he was officially named to the United States' team that will compete at the 2010 International Paralympics Committee Swimming World Championships.

The event will be held in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, from August 15-21, 2010.

Scholz won four events at the 2010 Can-Am National Championships, March 25-27, in San Antonio, Texas. He took first in the S11 category in three freestyle events - the 50 meters, 400 meters and 1,500 meters - and also won the 100-meter backstroke.

In addition to those victories, Scholz also placed second in the 100-meter freestyle and third in the 100-meter backstroke.

Scholz, who is blind, is a veteran of many international competitions. He brought home a gold, two silvers and a bronze medal at the 2009 IPC World Championships in Rio de Janerio, Brazil.

The native of Mt. Siani, N.Y., also competed at the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing, China.
