SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Loyola University Maryland junior Philip Scholz won three races this weekend at the 2010 U.S. Paralympic Spring Nationals/Spring Can-Am meet at Palo Alto Community College.
Scholz, who is blind and swims at the S11 level, won three freestyle events, the 50 meters, 400 meters and 1,500 meters. He also won the 100-meter backstroke.
In addition to his victories, Scholz took second in the 100-meter freestyle and third in the 100-meter breaststroke.
"We will not know officially if Philip has made the World Championship Team until April 12, but I feel that his performance this weekend should earn him a spot," Loyola Head Coach Brian Loeffler said.
The meet was the U.S. Trials for the 2010 IPC Swimming World Championships that will be held in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.
