BALTIMORE - The Loyola University Maryland swimming and diving teams will head to Buffalo, N.Y., for the 2012 MAAC Championships this weekend. The meet will be held at Erie Community College and will run Thursday, Feb. 16 through Saturday, Feb. 18. Fans can log onto MAAC.TV to view the event from the Burt Flickinger Center.
Led by junior Brennan Morris, the two-time MAAC Men’s Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Year, Loyola’s men enter the meet looking for their fourth-straight MAAC Championship. Morris won four individual events a year ago and is entered into eight events this year, six of which he is favored to win.
On the women’s side, four-time MAAC Swimmer of the Week Caitlin Cronin leads the way, as she is ranked first in both the 100y freestyle and 200y freestyle, and enters the weekend ranked second in the 50y freestyle. At last year’s championship, the women finished third with 499.5 points, while Marist won the title with 843 points.
In addition to Cronin and Morris, Loyola also has six other Greyhounds ranked in the top-three of individual events, including Courtney Trivino, who is ranked third in both the 200y IM and 400y IM.
The Greyhounds also own the top-two spots in the 1000y freestyle, with Ben Duva ranking second behind Morris.
In diving events, Elle Mixa ranks third in the 1-meter diving.
