EDISON, N.J. - Loyola University Maryland swimmer Abby Wiese has been selected as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league. The native of Westlake, Texas, has been honored for her accomplishments both in and out of the pool.
A junior carrying a 3.7 GPA in international business, Wiese earned two top-five finishes in the Greyhounds' final home meet of the year on Friday against La Salle. She took fourth in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:13.84 and was a member of Loyola's third-place 200-yard medley relay that combined for a time of 1:54.70.
Wiese leads the Greyhounds in the 200-yard butterfly this year with her a season-best time of 2:11.67. That time was good enough to win the event against Johns Hopkins and Saint Francis on Nov. 5, and ranks her eighth in the MAAC standings.
Wiese is also second on the team in the 100y butterfly with a time of 1:01.21, trailing just senior teammate Courtney Trivino (1:01.04). Wiese is ranked 17th in the MAAC with that performance.
In addition to individual events, Wiese has also helped Loyola's 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard medley relay to eight top-five finishes throughout the year.
The Greyhounds will close out their regular season on Saturday, heading to Mount St. Mary's. Events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
