EDISON, N.J. - Loyola University Maryland sophomore swimmer Brennan Morris kicked off the new year in winning fashion, taking this week's Metro Athlantic Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week Award.
The award marks the fifth MAAC weekly honor for Morris in 2010-2011.
Morris proved instrumental in the Greyhounds' tri-meet over the weekend, helping Loyola to a 170-130 win over Rider and a 189-109 win over Boston College on Saturday.
Morris won the only three individual events in which he competed. The sophomore won his first race, the men's 1,000-yard freestyle, by finishing ahead of Rider's Arthur Arciszewski by more than 14 seconds with a time of 9:56.54.
He followed the win up with victories in the men's 200-yard backstroke and the men's 200-yard individual medley, both coming over Rider's Johnny Funk by margins of less than a second.
Loyola returns to the water on Saturday, January 22, in Harrisonburg, Va., at 1 p.m. The women's team will take on James Madison will both sides will swim against Towson.
