Loyola Sweeps MAAC Swimmer Of The Week Honors

EDISON, N.J. - Loyola University Maryland junior Brennan Morris and sophomore Caitlin Cronin swept the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Swimmer of the Week honors this week, as announced today by the league office.

Morris claimed three individual titles at Rider on Saturday to run his streak of undefeated races this season to 17 straight. In addition, he set a new pool record in the 500-yard freestyle, touching in 4:37.88. In the 200-yard breaststroke, he finished in 2:09.42, while he led all competitors in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:30.16. Morris was also a member of the Greyhounds' 200-yard medley relay team of Jeffrey Rowe, Patrick Mukri and Julien Brice that finished runner-up in 1:37.27.

This marks the fifth time this season Morris has been named the MAAC Men's Swimmer of the Week, while it is the 14th award of his career.

On the women's side, Cronin went undefeated at Rider, winning three individual titles and one relay crown. She narrowly missed pool records in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle, winning the 50-yard freestyle in 24.51 and the 100-yard freestyle in 52.76. She also claimed top honors in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:53.12, while she anchored the Greyhounds' 400-yard freestyle relay of Mary Henkels, Lauren Mari and Brianna Keelan to victory in 3:37.21.

This weekly award is the second for Cronin this season and the third of her career.

Loyola will head to Catonsville, Md., on Saturday for a tri-meet against in-state opponents UMBC and Towson. Events are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
