BALTIMORE - The Loyola University Maryland swimming and diving team will kick off the New Year this weekend, heading to Rider for a meet with its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe on Saturday. Events will begin at 1 p.m. at the Richard A. Coppola Pool in Maurer Center.
The Greyhounds men enter the meet with a 6-4 record this season and have won their last five competitions, including sweeping their conference opener against Iona, Marist and Saint Peter’s on Dec. 2-3. On the women’s side, Loyola is 4-4 this season, including 2-1 in the conference; as the Greyhounds downed Iona and Saint Peter’s, while losing to Marist.
Junior All-American Brennan Morris has led the men’s team so far this season, going undefeated in all 14 individual events he has competed in. The native of Lutherville, Md., has earned four MAAC Swimmer of the Week honors and is ranked eighth in the NCAA in the 400 IM with a time of 3:48.81. He also ranks 30th nationally in the 1650 freestyle with a season-best time of 15:21.50.
On the women’s side, sophomore Caitlin Cronin broke her own school record in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.88) and has won seven events this season.
Following the weekend, the Greyhounds will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 21, heading to UMBC to face the Retrievers and Towson.
