BALTIMORE - Junior Ruslan Kopunek won the 50 free and teamed with freshman Aidan O’Hara, freshman Dale Maholage and sophomore Richard Mueller to win the 400 medley relay Friday night on the opening night of the H2ounds Invitational at Mangione Pool at Loyola’s Fitness and Aquatics Center.
Kopunek touched first in the 50 free with a time of 20.81 to win his third title in the event. Senior Julian Brice finished third in the race with a time of 21.27. On the women’s side, junior Brianna Keelan took third in 24.46.
Freshman Becca Meyers picked up a runner-up finish in the 500 free in 5:06.89, while O’Hara touched third on the men’s side with a time of 4:42.72.
In the 200 IM, senior Erin Shea was third in 2:09.09.
The Greyhounds earned three second-place finishes in relay events. The women’s 400 medley relay team of sophomore Kelsey Dramis, freshman Tara Mulligan, sophomore Kaitlin Richter and sophomore Megan Brady touched second in 3:53.91, while the squad of Keelan, sophomore Cara Egan, Shea and senior Caitlin Cronin was second in the 800 free relay (7:44.58). The men’s quartet of sophomore Jack Bair, senior Bryan Bedacht, O’Hara and junior Brendan McGann touched second in the 800 free relay in 7:05.21.
In diving events, senior Elle Mixa took second on the 1-meter boards with a score of 220.85, while senior Victoria Arturi was third with a score of 186.85.
Loyola will return to action on Saturday when it begins the second and final day of competition at 10 am.
