BALTIMORE - The Loyola University Maryland men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams recorded 23 first-place finishes, en route to a sweep of Howard Saturday afternoon at Mangione Pool. The men’s squad recorded 10 victories in a 121-79 win, while the women notched 13 first-place finishes to remain undefeated this season, winning by a score of 122-58.

Senior Caitlin Cronin and juniors Erin Calderoni and Ruslan Kopunek led the way with three victories. Cronin and Calderoni teamed up with sophomore Kelsey Dramis and senior Courtney Chenet to win the 200 medley relay in 1:53.42, while they also swam with junior Brianna Keelan and senior Erin Shea in the winning 200 free relay team (1:40.98).

Individually, Cronin won the 200 IM in 2:12.35 and Calderoni touched first in the 50 free, with a time of 25.26.

Kopunek won the 50 free in 21.35 and the 100 free in 47.39, while he was also a member of the 200 free relay team that was victorious. Kopunek anchored the team of sophomore Nigel Hunter, senior Zachary Eller and senior Julien Brice to a first-place finish and a time of 1:27.06.

Senior Bryan Bedacht also picked up a pair of first-place finishes for the men, touching first in the 200 fly (2:02.36) and the 500 free (4:56.50), while sophomores Megan Brady and Kaitlin Richter, and freshman Theresa McKallen earned two individual victories in the pool. Brady won the 100 free in 55.90 and the 200 breast in 2:37.12, Richter won the 200 back in 2:13.88 and the 200 free in 2:04.81, and McKallen won the 500 free (5:24.91) and 1000 free (11:17.52).

The Greyhounds’ 200 medley relay team of freshman Aidan O’Hara, freshman Dale Maholage, sophomore Rich Mueller and sophomore Nigel Hunter touched first in 1:39.53, while O’Hara also claimed victory in the 200 breast (2:15.88).

Senior Erin Shea and junior Rob Walker rounded out the individual champions. Shea won the 200 fly in 2:14.80 and Walker touched first in the 200 IM in 2:03.76.

The Greyhounds also swept all four diving events. Senior Elle Mixa won both of the women’s titles, recording a score of 240.82 on the 1-meter boards and 251.03 on the 3-meter boards. On the men’s side, senior Michael Brown won 1-meter diving with a score of 260.10, while sophomore Ryan Conley won the 3-meter event (254.02).

Loyola will return to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 16, when it hosts Patriot League-foe Colgate in a dual meet at the Fitness and Aquatic Center. Events are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
