Swimming And Diving Dominates Howard And VMI

BALTIMORE - The Loyola University Maryland men's and women's swimming and diving teams won all but one event on Saturday as the two squads swept Howard and VMI at Mangione Pool.

The Greyhounds' 200 medley relay team of Liz McKenna, Courtney Kenyon, Jaime Knippenberg and Caitlin Callanan started the day with Loyola's first win, combing for a time of 1:56.61, while the men's squad of Alec Sperandio, Dale Maholage, Chris Cary and Madison Hardimon touched first in their race in 1:39.32.

Alden Bauman notched her first collegiate victory by winning the 1650 free in 18:18.54, while Ben Pearthree was the men's winner with a time of 17:17.31

Maddie Myers and Andrew Man won the 200 free titles, with times of 1:58.00 and 1:47.08, respectively, and Erin Calderoni (24.69) and Nigel Hunter (21.87) were victorious in the 50 free.

In the 200 IM, Brianna Keelan won the women's side in 2:16.09 and Stephen Tonaszuck was the men's winner, clocking in at 2:04.33.

VMI's Heather Magill became the first non-Greyhound to win an event, capturing the 1-meter diving title, but Maggie Garrahan won the 3-meter board with a score of 227.25 to beat Magill by almost 28 points.

Following Ryan Conley's win in 3-meter diving (251.85), Kalie Coyne (1:01.10) and Alec Sperandio (53.51) won 100 fly titles, and McKenna and Mueller both touched first in the 100 free. McKenna clocked in at 55.42 and Mueller finished in 48.47.

Megan Brady won the women's 100 back in 1:02.07 and Tim Barry captured the men's top spot in 56.50. Erika Winkler followed that up with a first-place finish in the 500 free (5:34.68) and Aidan O'Hara tacked on his first win in that event this year, touching in 4:50.85.

Noel Theroux won the final diving event, the 1-meter boards, with a score of 247.35 and Cara Egan and Cary wrapped up individual swimming events with wins in the 100 breast. Egan touched in 1:09.37 and Cary clocked a time of 1:02.05.

Loyola concluded competition with a pair of 200 free relay titles. The women's squad of Tara Mulligan, Jenna Riley, Calderoni and Keelan touched first in 1:41.18 and the men's team of Pearthree, Mueller, Brendan McGann and Hunter finished in 1:28.38.

As a team, the women's squad swept Howard, 166-59, and VMI, 150-78. The Greyhounds' men beat Howard, 163-62, and VMI, 156-76.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Saturday when it travels to Colgate for a 1 p.m., meet.
