Swimming & Diving Leads After Day One At Thomas Murphy Invitational

BALTIMORE - Loyola's men's swimming and diving team took a lead after day one at the Thomas Murphy Invitational, and the Greyhounds' women lead two of three schools at the Mangione Aquatic Center.

The men took a 77-14 lead over Johns Hopkins, while the women are ahead of St. Francis (Pa.), 55-50, and Johns Hopkins, 70-37. Richmond leads the Greyhounds' women, 69-38.

Brennan Morris, Colin Chenet, Ozzy Torres and Brad Reeser gave Loyola a lead after the first event, winning the 400-yard medley relay in 3:27.98.

Morris then came right back in the 500-yard freestyle, leading a 1-2-3 finish by the Greyhounds in 4:34.98. Patrick Mukri and Jon Wertz finished in 4:44.72 and 4:51.47, respectively.

Jacob Drannan and Zach Oster placed first and second in the 200-yard individual medley with times of 1:56.89 and 1:58.64.

Torres, Reeser and Sam McQuaid then battled for the Greyhounds in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in that order. Torres won in 21.51, while Reeser swam 21.71, and McQuaid clocked a time of 21.76.

The Greyhounds' 800-yard freestyle relay team - Torres, Drannan, Mukri and Morris - closed the evening with a win in 7:06.17.

The meet continues on Saturday, November 7, 2009. The morning session starts at 10 a.m., and the afternoon slate commences at 3 p.m.
