Swimming & Diving Posts Top Times At Seton Hall Quad Meet

East Orange, N.J. - The Loyola men's and women's swimming and diving teams registered a number of top times and three school records at the Seton Hall Quad Meet on Saturday afternoon. The men's team defeated Georgetown and Lafayette before falling to host Seton Hall, while the women were edged out by Seton Hall and Lafayette.

"This was one of the more memorable meet we have ever had. Nearly ever single athlete had a season best time," said Loyola Head Coach Brian Loeffler after the meet. "For us to swim this well, this early in the season is a great accomplishment. I hope we can continue the momentum."

Among the school records set at the meet were Loyola's women's 400-yard Medley Relay and individual performances by Tori Kamauff and Caitlin Cassidy. The relay team, consisting of Melissa White, Kim Krzaczek, Cassidy and Megan Royer, came out and set the record in the first event of the afternoon with a time of 4:02.94.

Kamauff, meanwhile, won the 200 Free in 1:56.79, while Cassidy won the 100 Fly in 58.48. She also won the 100 Back, posting a solid time of 1:00.80.

"Caitlin and Tori both had great swims today," added Coach Loeffler. "Each lowering there personal best times and improving on their own school records."

Kamauff also had a second-place finish in the 200 IM (2:13.17), while Krzaczek took third in the 100 Breast (1:09.71) and Royer scored points with her fourth-place showing in the 50 Free (25.13).

On the men's side, the Greyhounds registered a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 Free with freshman Ozzy Torres leading the way. Torres won in 1:45.13, ahead of teammates Jonathan Wertz (1:45.42) and Brad Reeser (1:45.66). Torres also posted a Loyola Top 5 time in the 100 Fly with his runner-up finish in 52.09; and he took third in the 50 Free in 21.96.

Wertz won the 500 Free with a time of 4:46.48. He also helped Loyola's 400 freestyle relay team win the event in 3:13.21. Reeser led off the relay, and with the help of Sam McQuaid, Wertz and Jacob Drannan - captured the win.

The Greyhounds also posted a number of runner-up finishes and top times on the men's side, including freshman Matthew Fralinger's second-place finishes in both the 100 Breast (59.85) and 200 Breast (2:15.09). Freshman Tim Rowe was second in the 200 Fly in 1:58.53, and freshman Jake Swiggett took second in the 200 Back (1:59.41).

The Greyhounds will finally return home and host Johns Hopkins, VMI and Howard in the Thomas Murphy Invitational this Friday and Saturday.
