ATLANTA - Loyola University Maryland sophomore Ben Cono concluded his 2015-16 season with a 41st-place finish in the 200 breaststroke at the NCAA Division I Championships at Georgia Tech's McAuley Aquatic Center Saturday morning.
Cono, the program's first-ever participant at the Division I Championships, turned in a time of 1:59.68 in his second event of the weekend. Cono finished 37th in the 100 breast yesterday in 53.91.
Through the regular season, Cono went undefeated through both breaststroke events, winning a combined 13 titles. At the Patriot League Championships, Cono became Loyola's first-ever League champion, capturing the 100 breaststroke title. He then finished runner-up in the 200 breast to become the program's first-ever first-team All-Patriot League performer.
The native of Smithtown, New York, and transfer from NC State also broke Loyola's school records in the 100 breast (52.92), 200 breast (1:55.70) and 200 IM (1:49.68), while his time of 56.50 in the 100 breast at Lehigh broke the Jacobs Pool record.
