ATLANTA - Loyola University Maryland sophomore Ben Cono finished 37th in the 100 breaststroke at the NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving Championships Friday at Georgia Tech's McAuley Aquatic Center.

Cono turned in a time of 53.91.

The native of Smithtown, New York, became the first Greyhound swimmer or diver to advance to the NCAA Division I Championships. Loyola's first-ever Patriot League Champion, Cono also became the program's first first-team All-Patriot League performer, as he won the 100 breaststroke and finished runner-up in the 200 breaststroke at the League championships.

He also set Loyola's all-time program records in the 100 breast (52.92), 200 breast (1:55.70) and 200 IM (1:49.68) this season, while his 100 breast time of 56.50 at Lehigh broke the Jacobs Pool record.

Cono will return to the pool tomorrow morning to compete in the preliminary round of the 200 breaststroke.
