Men's Swimmers Begin Competition at ECAC Champs

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Senior Ruslan Kopunek led the Loyola University Maryland swimming and diving team on the first day of the ECAC Championships at Navy’s LeJeune Hall Friday, scoring in three events, including finishing sixth in the 50 freestyle. Kopunek entered the finals of the 50 free ranked fourth after turning in a preliminary time of 20.61, a mark just shy of Brad Reeser’s school record of 20.45 from 2009. He finished the finals with a time of 20.77. He also teamed with Chris Cary, Zeke Wolfgang and Phillip Jones for a 12th-place finish in the 200 free relay (1:25.10) and a 12th-place finish in the 400 medley relay (3:31.27). Wolfgang and Jones also competed in the 50 free, with Wolfgang finishing 50th with a time of 21.72 and Jones taking 75th with a time of 22.73. On the women’s side, Grace Huckenpoehler finished 54th in the 50 free, as she touched the wall in 25.71. Cary rounded out the Greyhounds competing today, finishing 38th in the 200 IM with a time of 1:56.30. Events will continue tomorrow, with the preliminary round beginning at 6:30 a.m., and the finals at 4:30 p.m.
