Men 5th, Women 8th After ECAC Championships First Day

PITTSBURGH - Loyola University Maryland's men's swimming and diving team sits in fifth place, and the women's squad is eighth, after the first day of the 2010 ECAC Championships at the University of Pittsburgh.

The Greyhounds' men scored 91 points, while the U.S. Naval Academy leads the competition with 177 points. Loyola's women scored 55, while Harvard leads the race with 213.5 points.

The men's 400-yard medley relay team of Brennan Morris, Colin Chenet, Ozzy Torres and Brad Reeser had the Greyhounds' best finish of the day, taking second with a time of 3:23.13.

Morris posted the top individual finish, claiming third in the 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 4:30.04.

The women's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Megan Royer, Mary Henkels, Meghan Barry and Lauren Mari opened Friday night's finals with a seventh-place finish in 1:40.16.

Megan Shovlin then finished the 500-yard freestyle in 5:05.80 to finish 14th.

Jacob Drannan earned a fourth-place finish in the men's 200-yard individual medley, clocking a time of 1:52.50 to edge Dan Fletcher of Boston University by 0.02.

Lauren Mari swam a time of 24.46 and placed 11th in the women's 50-yard freestyle.

The Greyhounds' women's 400-yard medley relay - Henkels, Courtney Trivino, Sara Mion and Mari - swam 4:01.97 and took eighth.

The competition resumes on Saturday morning with preliminaries in more events.
