ANNAPOLIS - Senior Caitlin Cronin and freshman Tara Mulligan each broke an individual school record, while also teaming with sophomore Lizzie McKenna and senior Erin Shea to break Loyola University Maryland’s 400 medley relay school record on the third day of the Patriot League Championships at Navy’s Lejeune Pool on Friday.
Cronin finished 12th in the 200 free with a personal-best time of 1:51.51 to better her previous school record mark of 1:52.04 from 2011, while Mulligan became the first Greyhound to compete in the A final at the Patriot League Championships. She finished fourth in the 100 breast in 1:04.95, betting Kim Krzazcek’s school record of 1:05.21 from 2009.
The Greyhounds also knocked down the school record in the 400 medley relay with McKenna, Mulligan, Shea and Cronin combining for a seventh-place finish in 3:50.70. Courtney Trivino, Krzazcek, Caitlin Cassidy and Lauren Mari’s had previously teamed to post the program’s best-ever performance, a time of 3:51.89 from 2009.
Loyola’s women have seen three relay records fall in the first three days of competition, as Shea and Cronin joined with juniors Brianna Keelan and Erin Calderoni to set new school records in the 200 free and 800 free relays, as well.
In addition to Cronin, Calderoni and Keelan also advanced to the finals of the 200 free, with Keelan finishing 14th in 1:52.09 and Calderoni taking 16th in 1:52.37. In the 100 breast, freshman Courtney Kenyon finished 11th with a time of 1:05.85 and sophomore Cara Egan touched in 1:06.11, good for 13th place.
On the men’s side, freshman Dale Maholage was 16th in the 100 breast (57.90) and in the 100 back, sophomore Lizzie McKenna finished 12th in 57.50, while freshman Marie Clarkson was 16th with a time of 58.29.
In diving events, senior Elle Mixa finished 10th on the 1-meter boards with a score of 219.35, while senior Victoria Arturi took 13th with 211.80 points.
Navy leads all competition on both the men's and women's sides, with the women's squad posting 525 points and the men's team accumulating 595.5 points. Bucknell is second on the women's side with 431 points, while Boston University is third at 385.5. The Greyhounds sit seventh with 176 points.
On the men's side, Boston University is second with 433 points and Army is third at 406 points. Loyola is eighth with 102.5 points.
Loyola will return to the pool for its final day of competition on Saturday. Preliminaries will begin at 10:30 a.m., with finals taking place at 6 p.m.
