Women Knock Off Another School Record At Patriot League Champs

ANNAPOLIS - The Loyola University Maryland women’s swimming relay team of junior Brianna Keelan, senior Erin Shea, junior Erin Calderoni and senior Caitlin Cronin combined to break their second school record in as many days at the Patriot League Championships in Navy’s Lejeune Hall on Thursday.

The quartet finished fourth in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:34.39 to replace

Megan Royer, Caitlin Cassidy, Mary Henkels and Lauren Mari’s time of 1:35.81 from 2009 atop the record board. In yesterday’s events, Keelan, Shea, Calderoni and Cronin teamed to break Loyola’s 800 free relay record yesterday.

Cronin also scored in an individual event today, finishing 14th in the 50 free (23.90).

On the men’s side, Loyola had a pair of Greyhounds score in the 50 free, with junior Ruslan Kopunek touching 11th in 20.76. Senior Julien Brice was 16th with a time of 20.97.

In diving events, the Greyhounds claimed the 11th and 12th places with senior Michael Brown scoring 224.35 points and freshman Noel Theroux finishing close behind at 224.05.

The men’s 200 free relay team of Brice, sophomore Nigel Hunter, senior Zachary Eller and Kopunek rounded out the day’s competition with a sixth-place finish in 1:22.96.

Loyola’s men moved up three places and into sixth place after 14 scored events. The Greyhounds have accumulated 83.5 points, but Navy’s men lead all competition with 356.5 points. Boston University is second at 207 points and Army is close behind in third with 203 points. Bucknell is fourth with 174 and Lehigh is fifth at 148.

Navy also leads the women’s competition with 260 points, while Boston University is second at 211 and Bucknell is third with 203 points. The Greyhound women are in seventh place with 99 points.

Loyola will return to the pool for the third day of the four-day meet. Preliminary events are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m., with finals starting at 6 p.m.
