ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Loyola University Maryland swimming and diving team closed out the regular season at the Navy Invitational Saturday, with Ben Cono, North Woods and the men's 200 medley relay picking up victories at Lejeune Hall, the site of the upcoming Patriot League Championships.
Woods touched first in the 1650 free with a time of 16:58.37, while Cono won his seventh-straight 100 breast title, touching in 55.62. Teammate John Callaghan finished fourth in the event, finishing in 59.49.
The Greyhounds also got six runner-up finishes throughout the meet, including three from Kopunek.
Kopunek then finished second in the 100 free in 48.06, while teammate Chris Cary finished fourth in the event with a time of 48.26. Cary also logged a second-place finish in the 200 breast, touching in 2:10.45, while Ariana Dean was second on the women's side with a time of 2:29.09.
In the 50 free, Kopunek touched second in 21.43, Mueller and Hardimon both touched in 21.86 to finish tied for fourth and Sperandio (22.19) took seventh to give the Greyhounds four of the top seven spots in the event.
Jenna Brown rounded out the runner-up finishers, as she and Jaime Knippenberg finished 2-3 in the 200 fly. Brown touched in 2:12.53, while Knippenberg finished the race with a time of 2:14.85.
In the 1650 free, Mckenzie Coan set a new S8 American Record, finishing sixth in 20:07.09.
The meet concluded the regular season for the Greyhounds as their next event is the Patriot League Championships. The four-day meet will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 17.
