Newark, Del. - The Loyola men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell in a non-conference meet at Delaware on Saturday, dropping head-to-head action with the Blue Hens. The men fell by a score of 194.5-103.5, while the women finished on the short end of a 180-106 final score.
The Greyhound women were led by senior diver Megan Sterback, who won both the 1- and 3-meter diving competitions. Sterback scored a 198.92 on the 1-meter board, and posted a 203.93 on the 3-meter to win both events. Freshman diver Alexandra Coletta was second on the 1-meter and third in 3-meter competition.
In the pool, the Greyhound women claimed a pair of 1-2-3 finishes, sweeping the 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard IM events. Melissa White won the 100 Fly in 1:03.31 and was followed by junior Megen Hadley and freshman Mary Jane Pijanowski.
On the men's side, senior Ryan Reeser had another impressive day in the pool with three first-place finishes. Reeser was victorious in the 200 Free (1:43.35), 500 Free (4:41.46), and 1,000 Free (10:01.14).
Freshman Brad Reeser, who placed second to Ryan in the 500 Free, had three runner-up finishes for the Greyhounds, placing second in the 50 Free (22.32), 100 Free (48.84) and 500 Free (4:53.54).
Sophomore Ernest Verrico was also impressive in the breaststroke events, winning the 100 Breast in 1:01.75 and the 200 Breast in 2:16.53.
The Greyhounds return home for another non-conference meet against Charles Street foe Towson next Saturday. Loyola will host the Tigers at the Mangione Aquatic Center beginning at 1 p.m.
