BOSTON, Mass. - The Loyola University Women’s rowing team is returning to Head of the Charles Saturday, October 20. The challenging Charles River course will mark the team’s first competition of the 2012-2013 season.
The team will be led by Sophomores Clara Coleman and stroke seat Andrea Almeida. The two will lead freshman newcomers Eleni Papadatos, Kelly Gregitis, and coxswain Lindsay Superczynski up the three mile course.
Head Coach Al Ramirez believes the team is ready for the race. He hopes the women can guarantee an entry to next year’s competition by placing in the top 50 percent Saturday. The Loyola Greyhounds have been able to secure an entry for several years.
The Greyhounds will also take a men’s alumni 8 team in the club category. Recent graduate, Tom Quinn, will steer the boat, led by stroke Tom Scida, Marc Hesse, Ed Garnett, Doug Brown, Nick Kiniry, Ryan Walsh, Alex Canale, and Tom Bellew. The team is highly decorated coming into Saturday’s race, facing tough competition against varsity and club teams.
The women’s four team will hit the water Saturday at 12:55 p.m. For live updates visit Head of the Charles Regatta website.
