BOSTON, Mass. - The Loyola University Maryland women's crew team opens its fall season this weekend at the Head of the Charles Regatta on Saturday and Sunday in Boston, Mass.
The Greyhounds will be competing with a varsity four boat that features Lauren Walsh (coxswain), Julianne Roccuzzo (stroke), Maggie Ajello (three seat), Catriona Miller (seat two) and Clara Coleman (bow).
The Head of the Charles Regatta is an international event and could be considered the fall rowing festival for the country. The regatta features many of the top crews in the country, including alumni club and grad school boats.
Last year, the Loyola varsity four finished 17th out of 51 boats and earned an automatic entry to this year's competition.
"We're looking forward to getting in the water," said head coach Al Ramirez. "We hope to earn another guaranteed entry this year. "
To earn an automatic bid boats had to finish within five-percent of the winning time. That rule has been modified this year and boats will have to finish in the top-half of their respective race to earn a bid.
Loyola continues fall competition at the Head of the Schuykill on October 29 in Philadelphia, Pa.
