Sept. 7, 2010
The Loyola University Maryland men’s and women’s crew teams will be holding informational meetings regarding walk-on tryouts on Thursday, September 9 at 4:30 p.m. in room 203 of Sellinger Hall. The team will also hold tryouts for those unable to attend the first session on Wednesday, Sept. 15, at 5 p.m. at Knott Hall B03.
The Greyhounds are seeking competitive athletes, including smaller men and women (90-120 lbs) to serve as coxswains. No experience is necessary for this mostly walk-on team. Loyola competes in against teams from all over the country.
“We are looking for hard working athletes from any sport background,” said Head Coach Al Ramirez. “No experience is necessary to learn to row at our afternoon practices and open tryouts allow all to try the most traditional college sport as a D-I varsity athlete.”
The Greyhounds captured their fourth women’s conference championship in 2009-2010 while the men took second place. The team also won the IRA National Championship in the light 4+, won the V8 petite final at the Dad Vail Championship Regatta and medaled at the US ROWING national championship in multiple events.
Those interested should complete Loyola sports medicine information and physical paperwork located here before trying out. There is no cost to try out.
