BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland rising senior Maggie Ajello earned an invitation to row for the New York Athletic Club's (NYAC) Summer Racing team for the second consecutive year. Each season, the NYAC offers a select group of collegiate athletes invitations to train and compete in three summer regattas. The purpose of the program is to introduce collegiate rowers to elite training and national competition.
The NYAC Rowing team is one of the oldest and most successful rowing teams in the country, capturing numerous American and Canadian championships. They have produced over 200 United States and international champions.
The team competes in three regattas including the July 4th Regatta on the Schuylkill River, the US Rowing Club National Championships and the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta. In addition to Ajello, the women's team includes rowers from Cornell, Penn, Boston College, Rutgers and George Washington.
The team trains six mornings per week at 5:30 a.m. at the rowing facility at Traveler's Island in Pelham, N.Y. Ajello rowed in the open and intermediate four categories at the US Rowing Club National Championships on July 30-31 at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis, Ind.
Ajello is a rising senior at the Sellinger School of Business at Loyola University. In addition to obligations to the NYAC Summer Racing Team, she also is a summer intern in the Financial Management Department at the North Shore University Hospital Medical System.
