This past winter break, members of the Loyola Crew team spent a week in warm and sunny Tampa, Florida. With the weather being close to 70 degrees everyday, the team practiced three times a day in preparation for the rigors of indoor winter training. During this trip the team was able to get some racing in against William & Mary’s Crew team. The women’s team saw much success in this scrimmage finishing first in four of the five race pieces. The men’s team gained experience in competitive racing as well fielding both a varsity four and a novice eight. The trip allowed the novice rowers to not just get a workout in, but also to gain experience rowing with the veteran team members.
However, the week was not all about rowing. The team bonded over activities such as attending a Tampa Bay Lightning game, going to the movies and having dessert at the local Sonic. With the anticipation of spring racing, the team heads into the erg room for the winter months. The future looks bright for Loyola Rowing as we head into the racing season. Following the tradition of the 2006 team this year’s Greyhounds left a lasting impression on the river in Tampa.
