FAIRFAX, Va. - The Loyola University Maryland rowing team had two boats - the men's lightweight four and men's individual - earn medals at the Head of the Occoquan on the Occoquan Reservoir Saturday.
The men's lightweight four highlighted the day's events, finishing first in its race and beating out teams from New York Maritime College, George Mason, the University of Maryland and Penn State. Craig MacAdams, James McCarron, Theodore Fortier, and Robert Moore finished the course in 18:08.92.
Sophomore Coldel Reynolds medaled and took first in the men's recreational singles race, crossing the finish line in 26:33.36.
Craig Spicer, Bryan Carney, Filip Zigic, and Joe Wawrzynski finished in the top-10 of the men's championship four race. The crew recorded a time of 18:12.90 and finished ahead of boats from George Mason, Old Dominion, Maryland and the University of Pittsburgh.
Earlier in the afternoon, the men's varsity eight took eighth out of 22 boats with a time of 16:27.92. The men's novice eight also finished just inside the top-10, taking ninth in 18:23.08.
On the women's side, Nona Sharp, Emily Mansour, Kristin Wawrzynski and Keenan Gibbons competed in the novice four race. The crew finished ninth, crossing the finish line in 24:02.66. The women's varsity four crew took 29th, in 22.11.46.
The rowing team returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Frostbite Regatta in West Windsor, New Jersey.
