Fairfax, Va. - The Men's Novice Eights and Men's Varsity Eights highlighted a stellar showing by the Loyola crew teams this weekend at the Head of the Ocoquan Regatta in Northern Virginia, which marked the final head race of the Fall campaign.

The men's freshman captured first-place in the Novice Eights, which featured 17 teams in the event. The team-composed of Sean Molloy (cox), Kyle Mannheimer, Heath Daniels, Dylan Jordan, Devin Dalton, Matt Hand, Tom Kelly, Nate Dahl and Tommy Lee- finished at a winning time of 17:43.8733, beating out boats from George Mason, Johns Hopkins and Penn State, among others.

"We're very proud of the showing by our novices and we hope they can continue to build on their success," Head Coach Al Ramirez said.

The Loyola Collegiate Eight boat was impressive in the initial race of the day, finishing second among 17 teams in the event at 15:27.516, just seconds behind a hosting George Mason crew.

"We have to keep working on being more consistent," Ramirez said. "We tried to be a little to aggressive in the middle-third of the race and I think we had difficulty getting a powerful and synchronized stroke going."

Loyola's lightweight also raced in the Men's Collegiate Eights, finishing 12th at 17:01.2067.

In the men's Collegiate Fours, the Loyola heavyweight boat-consisting of Tom Quinn, Devin Marsicovetere, Marc Hesse, and coxed by Reilly O'Brien, finished second in the event only to James Madison with a time of 17:08.87. Ramirez said that the boat made a nice comeback effort and that it was a "very solid row." The Greyhounds also raced a "B Quad" boat in that race which finished 17th.

The women's collegiate fours, consisting of Genevieve Dalton (cox), Kelly McDermott (stroke), Sheila Marsicovetere, Helen O'Connell , Molly Riley and Tom Quinn (cox) earned a 12th place finish in their event, beating out boats from Johns Hopkins and George Mason. The team finished at 20:27.67.

The team will begin the sprint-portion of their schedule next weekend, as it travels to Philadelphia, Penn., for the Philadelphia Frostbite Regatta.
