FAIRFAX, Va. - Out of eight total races, the Loyola University Maryland men's and women's crew teams recorded six top-10 finishes Saturday afternoon at the Head of the Occoquan in Sandy Run Park.
Ryan Brown, Ryan Scott, David Dukenik, Joseph Yacobucci and coxswain Rachel Yuhas highlighted the day's events, taking eighth out of 25 crews in the men's varsity four competition. The Greyhounds defeated crews from Penn State, the University of Maryland and the University of West Virginia. Loyola crossed the finish line in 18:44.20.
The men's novice eight boat (Ryan Elliott, Erik Magnuson, Jacob Landis, Nick Trautwein, Kunle' Soniregun, Chris Rynne, Daniel Lecce, Brandon Hutchinson and coxswain Mike Russo) recorded Loyola's fastest time of the afternoon. The Greyhounds took sixth with a time of 18:39.10.
On the women's side, Sarah Doyle took fourth in the women's championship singles with a time of 27:07.69. Later in the afternoon, Catherine Seeger competed in her first-ever singles race, taking second in the women's recreational competition. Seeger crossed the finish line in 29:51.71.
Lilly Lane, Mia Gioia, Alyssa Voli, Corinne Conyngham, Rhys Schueren, Claudia Fleshman, Natasha Murray, Aubrey Lewis and coxswain Emma Sharon were the final Loyola crew to record a top-10 finish at the Occoquan. The women's novice eight took 10th out of 21 boats and recorded a final race time of 22:01.73.
The women's varsity four boats closed out competition Saturday afternoon, as the "A" boat (Eleni Papadatos, Murray, Lauren Howe, Keenan Gibbons and cox Serena Rivera) took 11th with a time of 21:44.47, and the "B" boat (Glennith Capone, Emily Mansour, Kristin Wawrzynski, Nona Sharp and coxswain Tara Villaruel) finished 29th in 24:10.95.
The Greyhounds return to action Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Frostbite Regatta in Cherry Hill, N.J.
