PHILADELPHIA - The Loyola University Maryland men’s and women’s crew teams took to the water early Saturday morning to compete at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta.
In their first-ever collegiate race, cox Hana You, Lilly Lane, Alyssa Voli, Corrine Conyngham and Mia Gioia took 18th in the women’s novice four race, finishing ahead of Patriot League crews from Army West Point and Lafayette College. The Greyhounds crossed the finish line in 19:39.34.
Sarah Doyle raced in the Redgrave Challenge Women’s Championship Heavy Singles, finishing 17th in 21:32.67.
Loyola’s varsity A four boat of coxswain Serena Rivera, Eleni Papadatos, Natasha Murray, Lilly Lane and Keenan Gibbons took 24th in 17:39.36, while the B boat (cox Tara Villaruel, Lauren Howe, Kristin Wawrzynski, Emily Mansour and Nona Sharp) finished 41st with a time of 19:00.18.
The men’s novice eight boat recorded Loyola’s fastest time of the morning, crossing the finish line in 14:52.91. Coxswain Mike Russo, Eric Magnuson, JT Ellis, Naiem Waroich, Nick Trautwein, Jake Landis, Chris Rynne, Kunle Soniregun and Brandon Hutchinson took 14th out of 38 crews.
The Greyhounds return to action Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Head of the Occoquan Regatta in Fairfax, Virginia.
