BOSTON, Mass. - The Loyola University Maryland women's crew varsity four placed 18th of 46 boats in the women's club four race at the 47th Annual Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Mass., on Saturday afternoon.
The Head of the Charles Regatta is an international rowing event and could be considered the fall rowing festival for the country. There will be 61 events stretching between Saturday and Sunday on the Charles River.
The Greyhounds' boat, which included Lauren Walsh (coxswain), Julianne Roccuzzo (stroke), Maggie Ajello (three seat), Catriona Miller (seat two) and Clara Coleman (bow), finished the course in 20:55.823.
Boston University took first in the event with a time of 19:49.416.
The event included teams from Boston College, Fordham, Fairfield, Notre Dame, Manhattan Stony Brook and various clubs from around the United States and Canada.
The Greyhounds finished ahead of teams from Fairfield, Manhattan, Stony Brook, Georgia, Penn State and Holy Cross.
Loyola passed through the first split at Riverside in 5:21.862, and followed that with a 6:14.970 split through Weld.
As the race moved through Cambridge, Loyola picked up the pace and finished the final leg of in 3:30.341.
The 18th-place finished gives Loyola an automatic bid in the event in next year's regatta. Automatic bids are awarded to teams that finish in the top-half of their respective races.
Loyola continues fall competition at the Head of the Schuykill on October 29 in Philadelphia, Pa.
