CAMDEN, N.J. - Loyola University Maryland's women's lightweight four boat took second place in its Friday morning heat and advanced to the grand final at the 108th Intercollegiate Rowing Championships on the Cooper River.
The Greyhounds will race on Saturday, June 5, at 8:48 a.m.
Loyola's crew of Daisy Carter (stroke), Elizabeth Staub (3), Catorina Miller (2), Kimberly Winiarczyk (bow) and coxswain Katherine Griffin took an early lead at the 500-meter point before pulling back finished in 7:40.714, good for second place behind Wisconsin's winning time of 7:37.064.The team was able to conserve energy for tomorrow's final since both first and second reach the grand final.
Princeton (8:08.758) and MIT (8:22.148) rounded out the heat in third and fourth, respectively.
Loyola's time was also the second-best out of eight boats in two heats. Bucknell won the first heat in 7:47.767, followed by Radcliffe, Georgetown and Stanford.
Loyola's men will compete for 13th place in the third final of the Men's Varsity Four on Saturday morning.
