PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Greyhound men's and women's crew teams made the short trip to Philadelphia on Friday and Saturday to participate in the 2006 Dad Vail Regatta. With entries in four different events, Loyola had a chance to compete against some of the area's toughest competition.
Led by Devin Marsicovetere, the men's varsity 8 advanced to the repechage round by finishing fourth in its opening run with a time of 6:28.64. In the boat's second run, the squad turned in a second place finish with a time of 6:18.51 to advance to Saturday's semifinals. However, the Greyhounds did not advance after earning sixth place with a time of 6:05.44.
The women's varsity 8, led by Nikki Yaeger, earned fourth place in its run on Friday, turning in a mark of 7:27.19.
The men's and women's junior varsity 8 was unable to advance in its opening runs as the Greyhounds turned in times of 6:30.40 and 7:40.17, respectively.
The team will wait to see if they have qualified for the National Championship Regatta, which is set for June 1-3.
