PHILADELPHIA - The Loyola University Maryland rowing team, along with thousands of crews from more than 100 colleges and universities from around the country, competed at the first day of the Dad Vail Championships Friday afternoon on the Schuylkill River.
In Loyola's first race of the day, Craig Spicer and Robert Moore took first in the fifth heat of the men's pair with a time of 7:09.42. The duo will return to the water Saturday to compete in the semifinals of the men's varsity pair.
Later in the afternoon, the men's novice eight finished fourth amongst the seventh heat, which included crews from Pittsburgh, Michigan and North Carolina. The Greyhounds crossed the finish line in 6:53.41.
The women's novice eight crew recorded a final race time of 8:05.20 and took fifth in the second heat.
Loyola returns to action on Saturday, competing in the final day of the Dad Vail Championships.
