Tarini, Kelly Win Gold in Men's Pair at MACCCs

Fairfax, Va. - Junior Josh Tarini and sophomore Thomas Kelly teamed to win the gold medal in the Men's Pair at the 2010 Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Crew Championships Sunday afternoon on the Occoquan Reservoir. The Novice 4 and Varsity 8's both took the silver medal.

Following a lineup change in the Varsity 8, Tarini and Kelly had a good row and finished the course in 8:15.00, defeating George Mason by a boat's length and 4.14 seconds.

Although rowing a solid race, the Novice 4 of George Martinecz, Patrick Timlin, Paul Kalkbrenner, Michael Skopelitis and coxswain Steven Bitondo were nipped by U.S. Maritime in 7:49.04.

Attempting to defend the Charlie Butt, Sr. Trophy, the Varsity 8 of Thomas Quinn, Jordan Mastera in the stroke, Ryan Walsh, Michael Faust, Marc Hesse, Nick Miano, Kyle Jones, Maciej Owsianny and Christopher Golon. came up short by 8 seats. The `Hounds got out to an early lead and held the advantage at various points along the way. At the 400m to go mark, George Mason laid down a move that Loyola could not match and took a lead they would not relinquish.

The men's and women's rowing teams are back in the water May 7-8 at the Dad Vails Regatta on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.
