FAIRFAX STATION, Va. - Loyola University Maryland's men's varsity four crew fought off a closing challenge by Virginia Commonwealth University to take gold at the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Crew Championships on Sunday afternoon.
The boat of Thomas Quinn, Jordan Mastera, Ryan Walsh, Josh Tarini and Christopher Golon dominated in its heat, but the Greyhounds then had to hold off a challenge to win by just inches over the Rams in the final.
Loyola's women's varsity eight boat - Lauren Walsh, Kimberly Seckler, Kimberly Chambers, Andrea Hartman, Julianne Roccuzzo, Kimberly Winiarczyk, Margaret Ajello, Catriona Miller, Alexandra Brozyna, Kathleen Sweeney and Erin Mulhern - were even with Bucknell through the first 1,000 meters, but the Bison edged the Greyhounds at the finish, and Loyola came away with silver.
The Greyhounds' women's novice four crew of Meaghan Monroe, Sweeney, Hannah Rockwood, Chambers and Alexandra Dagenais took silver in its race, and the men's novice eight - Jordan Buff, Alexander Duffy, Max McLaughlin, Adam Angibeau, Tom Gasbarro, Doug D'Angelo, Andre Estrada and Cameron Kopp - finished fourth.
The men's pair of Thomas Kelly and Paul Kalkenbrenner notched a bronze medal in its race.
