West Windsor, N.J. - The Loyola women's crew team won its second straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship while the men earned an impressive second-place finish at the league championships on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. on Sunday.
The Greyhound women edged out Marist for the second straight year, racking up 133 team points while the Red Foxes earned 122 in their second-place finish. Loyola won the Varsity Lightweight 4 and the Novice 8 races to earn 50 points. The Varsity Pair also took first while the Varsity 8 picked up 24 points to clinch the victory with their second-place finish.
On the men's side, Loyola surprised heavily-favored Marist by taking the Varsity Pair along with both Lightweight 4 races. The Greyhounds picked up 99 total points, only 21 points back of first-place Marist and 40 points ahead of third-place Fairfield.
Last year, Loyola's women won by 9.5 points while the men place fourth overall with 25.5 total points. This year's finish is the best ever overall finish by any Loyola program.
