Rowing Has Successful Showing At The Occoquan Sprints

FAIRFAX, Va. - The Loyola University Maryland rowing teams had a successful day at the Occoquan Sprints in Fairfax, Virginia.

The women’s varsity four recorded Loyola’s best finish, as Andrea Almeida, Eleni Papadatos, Kimberly Seckler, Clara Coleman, and cox Lindsay Superczynski came in third with a time of 7:37.15.

In the novice boats, the quad of Ilsen Hernandez, Colleen Metzler, Melissa Cortes, Colleen Zirkle, and coxswain Katrina Trompeta finished fifth, while the eight boat finished fourth. Papadatos, Metzler, Hernandez, Cortes, Zirkle, Caroline Fitchett, Nicollette Ruiz, and Lynn Dryden crossed the finish line at 7:16.51.

On the men’s side, the varsity four had the best finish of the afternoon. The quad came in above Duquesne University, Carnegie Mellon University, and Duke University, finishing third among six boats.  The Greyhounds crossed the sprint course with a time of 6:56.84. 

Both the men's pair and varsity lightweight four boat came in fifth in their respective races.

Loyola returns to action April 13-14 at the Knecht Cup on the Cooper River.
