Men's Lightweight Four Medals At the Murphy Cup

CHERRY HILL, N.J. - The Loyola University Maryland men’s lightweight varsity four notched a second-place finish at the 32nd Memorial Murphy Cup Regatta, held on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J.

The boat of coxswain Emily Arcese, Walter Horan, Craig MacAdams, Theodore Fortier and Robert Moore claimed second behind Villanova with a time of 8:19.68.

The heavyweight men’s four took third in their qualifying heat, finishing just second away from progressing to the final race. Patrick Flynn coxed the squad of Juan Cadavid, James McCarron, Michael Blume and Christopher Keyloun with a race time of 8:17.63.

Rounding out the men’s races, the varsity eight finished fourth, while the jv squad took home fifth. The varsity boat clocked a time of 7:43.56, and the jv 8:01.10.

On the women’s side, the varsity four boat of Colleen Metzler, Melissa Cortes, Shannon Connelly, Megan Lothian and cox Lindsay Superczynski finished third in the prelims with a time of 9:33.45.

In the novice races both crews finished fourth, as the four crossed the finish line in 10:41.47, and the eight clocked a time of 9:28.90. 

Kelly Gregitis, Carly McMahon, Gabrielle Campitiello, Megan Rabenberg, Amanda Fleck, Eleni Papadatos, Dakota Corvalan and Superczynki brought home a fourth-place finish in the women’s varsity eight, a competitive race with boats from a number of Patriot League schools. The Greyhounds finished in 10:00.33, during the third heat of the event.

Loyola will be back in action next Sunday at the Occoquan Sprints.
