March 21, 2010

COOPER RIVER - Victories by both men's and women's varsity 4 highlighted the Loyola rowing teams' season opener Saturday on the Cooper River at the Jesuit Invitational. The men's second Varsity 4 boat also took third in the same race, while the women's varsity and novice 8 took second.

The men's varsity 4 covered the 2000m course in 6:57, besting Saint Joseph's University by over five seconds. Just behind the Hawks was Loyola's `B' boat, just three seconds behind.

The victorious women's varsity four dominated the race from start to finish, defeating MAAC rival Fairfield by almost 11 seconds.

The Hawks won their third straight Cannonball Trophy, but head coach Al Ramirez was very pleased with the efforts and performances by all of his rowers.
