PHILADELPHIA – Loyola University Maryland’s men’s and women’s rowing teams opened their spring slates Saturday when they took on crews from Lehigh University and other schools on the Schuylkill River.
The Mountain Hawks’ women took all three 2,000-meter races, crossing the line first in the varsity eight, the second varsity eight and varsity four. Lehigh’s top varsity eight beat Loyola, 7:01.11-7:23.41, and the Mountain Hawks’ second varsity eight crossed the line in 7:20.62 to the Greyhounds’ 7:50.92. Lehigh then topped the Greyhounds 8:20.78-9:06.44 in the varsity four.
On the men’s side, Delaware won the varsity eight race, stroking to a time of 6:00.9, while Lehigh took second in 6:11.71. The Greyhounds crossed the line in third with a time of 6:33.34.
Lehigh then won the varsity four race, edging Loyola 7:20.35-7:31.78.
The Greyhounds will be back on the Schuylkill River next weekend when they compete in the Murphy Cup on the Saturday, March 25.
