PHILADELPHIA – The Loyola University Maryland men’s and women’s rowing teams opened their 2016-2017 seasons Saturday at the Navy Day Regatta, racing in three events.
“All of our boats learned useful information about their racing rate abilities,” head coach Al Ramirez said. “We battled boats from many of our rivals and competed well.”
The women’s varsity eight boat – Serena Rivera, Maureen Frauenheim, Maggie Rabenberg, Kiera Callahan, Meaghan Kaiser, lilly Lane, Rhys Shueren, Maggie Knies and Keenan Gibbons – rowed a time of 17:02.22 to finish 21st in the event.
On the men’s side, the varsity eight entry – Zachary Pepper, Victor Santiago, Robert Moore, Jacob Landis, Gabe Rubio, John Dougherty, Finn Conley, Chris Rynne and Nick Trautwein – came in 25th overall with a mark of 14:31.43.
The Greyhounds also had an entry in the JV eight event, a boat of Mike Russo, Joseph Yacobucci, Reno Nolli, Peter McGuigan, Eric Magnusen, Andrew Ramirez, Ryan Elliott and Liam Marmo that finished in 14:37.84 to place 10th.
Next up for the Greyhounds is the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston where the men varsity eight will race on Saturday, Oct. 22.
