BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland will open its 2017 men’s lacrosse schedule on Saturday, Feb. 11, with the first of six games at Ridley Athletic Complex when the University of Virginia visits the Greyhounds home field.
The Greyhounds, who are coming off their second NCAA Semifinals appearance in the last five seasons, return seven of 10 starters and will look to defend their 2016 Patriot League Championship.

“We think this schedule will give our team some great tests while preparing us for what we believe will be another difficult Patriot League,” said Charley Toomey, Loyola’s head coach. “The challenge of starting the year with Virginia and Johns Hopkins right off the bat will test us immediately, and later in March, our series with Duke has grown into one of the best non-conference matchups in the country.”
As with last season, Loyola will face a pair perennial non-conference powers in its first two games of the year. Following the season-opener with the Cavaliers, the Greyhounds will travel to Homewood Field to take on Johns Hopkins University on Saturday, Feb. 18.
A week later, Loyola opens Patriot League play on the road when it travels to Easton, Pennsylvania, for a Saturday, Feb. 25, date with Lafayette College.
Four days after playing the Leopards, Loyola will have the first of two rematches with teams it defeated in the NCAA Tournament en route to Championships Weekend. The Greyhounds play at Towson University, a team the Greyhounds defeated 10-8 in the NCAA Quarterfinals, on Wednesday, March 1.
Saturday, March 4, brings Loyola’s second conference game of the season when it hosts College of the Holy Cross at Ridley Athletic Complex.
The Greyhounds again step out of League play for what has become one of the best non-conference contests in college lacrosse. Loyola travels to Durham, North Carolina, on Saturday, March 11, to take on Duke University. Last year, the Greyhounds avenged a regular-season loss to the Blue Devils with a 16-11 victory in the NCAA First Round.
Loyola will be back in Patriot League action on Saturday, March 18, when the U.S. Naval Academy comes to Ridley in a matchup of the top two teams in the Patriot League regular-season standings.
The Greyhounds’ final non-conference game of the year will take place on Wednesday, March 22, a date Loyola will host Georgetown University in a doubleheader that will see the Greyhounds women host the Hoyas, as well.
Five Patriot League games mark the schedule to close the regular-season, starting with a Saturday, March 25, game at Bucknell University. Last year, Loyola went to double-overtime with the Bison in the Patriot League Semifinals before pulling out a 7-6 win.
Two-straight games close the regular-season schedule at Ridley Athletic Complex, starting with a Saturday, April 1, affair with Colgate University. Lehigh University then visits the Greyhounds’ home field on Saturday, April 8.
Loyola wraps up play in the regular-season with two road contests, first at Boston University on Saturday, April 15. It culminates the slate with a Friday, April 21, game at the U.S. Military Academy.
Patriot League Championships action begins on Tuesday, April 25, with Quarterfinal action. The top two teams in the regular-season standings will earn byes to the Semifinals with the top seed hosting all three Championship Weekend games. The Semifinals will take place on Friday, April 28, with the title game going off on Sunday, April 30.
The schedule is subject to change, and times will be announced at a later date. Check LoyolaGreyhounds.com for the most up-to-date schedule.
