Baltimore, Md. - Canisius and Siena earned berths in the 2010 Chick-fil-A Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Championship at Loyola University Maryland's Ridley Athletic Complex with semifinal victories on Friday afternoon. The two teams will meet in the championship game at Ridley Athletic Complex on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Top-seeded Canisius took the first semifinal over the Rider Broncs, 1-0. MAAC Rookie of the Year Brianna Smith scored the lone goal for the Golden Griffins at the 28th minute, netting a cross shot from the left side off a pass from Jenny Griffin.
Canisius goalkeeper Lesley Ivinac made six saves for the Golden Griffins in the win.
In the second semifinal, third-seeded Siena rallied from a one-goal deficit to top the second-seeded Marist Red Foxes, 4-2.
Marist took an early 1-0 lead on a goal from Rycke Guiney but Siena answered with four straight goals in the second half to build a convincing lead over the Red Foxes. Lindsay Tegas opened the scoring on assists from Brittany Pfaff and Caitlin Cahalan before Tabitha Tice converted on a chance from Cahalan to give Siena the advantage at 68:23. Brittany Pfaff and Ashleigh Barone extended the score to 4-1 before Samantha Panzer scored for Marist with a minute and a half remaining.
The winner of Sunday's match will earn the MAAC's automatic bid to the 2010 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship.
