BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the Student Government Association hosted `Jock The Vote' on Wednesday night before the scheduled presidential debate. The event included student-athlete run contests for members of the Loyola community and was geared toward providing students a place to register to vote.

The women's soccer team  Best Track & Field Relay Handoff, Soccer Juggling, Swimming Flipper Races, Lacrosse Accuracy Shooting, Volleyball Serving and PIG/HORSE Competitions.

Prizes for the soccer juggling contests, lacrosse accuracy shooting, volleyball serving, PIG/HORSE competitions and other competitions ranged from Loyola athletics' apparel to gift cards from Chick-Fil-A, Qdoba and S'ghetti Eddie's.

"This was a great opportunity for members of the Loyola community to encourage their friends, classmates, coworkers or teammates to come to Reitz Arena and register to vote," said SAAC president and women's basketball senior Alyssa Sutherland.

"This was an event that SGA and SAAC worked together to get student-athletes registered to vote and signed up for absentee ballots," Loyola senior and SGA president Danielle Melfi said. "We really want our students to feel what it means to be an American citizen and be able to vote for the first time."

Following Jock The Vote, Loyola President Rev. Brian Linnane, S.J., spoke briefly in nearby McGuire Hall as students gathered to watch the presidential debate.
