INDIANAPOLIS - Bill Wnek, an associate director of athletics at Loyola University Maryland, has been named the chairman of the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Committee effective September 1, the national governing body announced this week.
The national committee represents the membership and performs several duties, including the selection of teams to the NCAA College Cup, administration of the championships and other issues regarding the sport.
Wnek rejoined the committee during the 2014-2015 season and will serve as the chair for the 2016-2017 season. He was a member of the committee prior to Loyola's conference affiliation change, and he was the group's chair for the first part of the 2012 season. He then was a member of the committee on an interim basis for 2013.
The graduate of Loyola was promoted to Associate Athletic Director at Loyola in January 2012. Prior to that, he served as Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance since 2004, after spending nine seasons as an assistant soccer coach at the school.
He was a soccer and tennis standout for the Greyhounds, and his name still rates on the school's all-time goals and points scored charts. He is 14th in career goals (34) and 16th in points (82).
