Terry Porter Named Assistant Athletic Director

BALTIMORE - Terry Porter has been named an assistant athletic director at Loyola University Maryland and will continue to serve as the Greyhounds’ primary point-of-contact for compliance and legislation issues, assistant vice president and director of athletics Jim Paquette announced today.

Porter, who joined the Loyola staff in May 2015 as an assistant director for NCAA eligibility, will continue to report to associate athletic director Bill Wnek and lead all compliance efforts on a day-to-day basis while continuing to serve as the department’s eligibility coordinator.

Since joining Loyola’s staff, Porter has continued the department’s NCAA compliance education program, served as a liaison to the University’s Registrar and been the liaison to prospective student-athletes for initial eligibility certification, among other duties.

Porter came to Loyola after working from 2013-2015 at the University of South Carolina as an assistant director of compliance. There, he managed the student-athlete opportunity fund, oversaw roster management and processed all monetary-related issues for student-athletes, graduate assistants and managers in addition to chairing the department’s Financial Aid Subcommittee.

Prior to working at South Carolina, Porter spent more than two years at his alma mater, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he was the assistant director of compliance before serving as the school’s director of compliance.

Porter graduated from Chattanooga with a Bachelor of Science in biology with a minor in chemistry in 2008, and he earned his Master of Science in health and human performance with a concentration in sport management from Middle Tennessee State University in 2011.

While in graduate school, the Knoxville, Tennessee, native interned at Vanderbilt University. He is a 2015 graduate of the NCAA Leadership Institute, and he has served in several community services roles, including his current role as a mentor for Man2Man with Loyola’s ALANA Services office.

Porter and his wife, Jamie, have a young son, Jaxon, and live in Howard County, Maryland.
