Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola men's and women's lacrosse teams host Towson and Hofstra in their respective home openers this Sunday. The men's take on Charles Street foe Towson at noon, while the women play Hoftra at 3 p.m. Both games will be televised live on the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN).
Sunday will mark the lacrosse debut of Diane Geppi-Aikens Field's new surface; a synthetic turf added this summer. The Greyhounds will play 14 combined games at home in 2007 with eight women's games and six men's contests.
For the women, Sunday also marks the season opener. The Greyhounds return their two leading scorers from last season in senior Kate McHarg and junior Maura Kenny. McHarg scored 60 goals in 2006 while adding nine assists. She enters 2007 on the Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List for top female lacrosse player in the nation.
On the men's side, Loyola opened the year at Notre Dame last Saturday with a tough 9-7 defeat. The Greyhounds, however, look forwarding to a challenging game with 13th-ranked Towson. Loyola, ranked 16th in this week's media poll, also has a player on the Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List in senior Andrew Spack.
MASN is a regional sports network owned by the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals. The network made the commitment to regional college athletics since its inception in August 2006 and will produce a schedule of regional lacrosse games this spring, including Loyola's men's lacrosse game with Hobart on April 28.
